Qualcomm has recently introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 630 mobile platforms that are designed to enhance the processors of the chip maker to all new levels.
In a blog post on Tuesday, the US chip maker mentioned that these new mobile platforms are specifically engineered to provide the Snapdragon 660 and 630 processors with additional relevance to advanced technologies in today’s fast-moving tech world, such as enhanced security and realistic photography.
Features such as Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Spectra camera ISP, and HVX (Hexagon Vector eXtensions) that were originally available only in the 800 processor tier are now available to the vendors, in the mid-tier market, that rely on the Snapdragon 660 and 630 chips.
The Snapdragon 660 and 630 processors and mobile platforms provide customers with advantages such as the 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP that is capable of capturing up to 24 MP of single ISP images that too with negligible lag. The Spectra further supports 4K video capturing. Other advantages include improved autofocus and realistic color capture.
The Snapdragon 630 supports up to 13 MP dual cameras, whereas the Snapdragon 660 supports up to 16 MP, together with the Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP incorporating the HVX architecture module. HVX module enhances the camera performance by knocking tasks that are frequently kept for main processor of a mobile device.
Furthermore, these new mobile platforms can now support the Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK that is designed specifically for incorporating deep neural and machine learning networks into software and apps used for facial recognition, voice detection, and object tracking.
Moreover, the Snapdragon 660 and 630 platforms further comprise the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that supports up to 600 Mbps speeds, Bluetooth 5 compatibility, and advanced RF Front End support, which is designed for use of mobile devices in inaccessible areas.
The CPU and GPU of Snapdragon 660 are also upgraded. The octa-core Kryo 260 CPU of the platform is projected to provide a 20% performance improvement as compared to the Snapdragon 653. The Adreno 512 GPU is anticipated to offer a 30% improvement as compared to predecessors. The Snapdragon 630 platform also comes with an 8-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU and the Adreno 508 GPU.
Currently, the Snapdragon 660 platform is available, while on the other hand, the 630 platform is anticipated to launch in the end of this month.
